10 "E" Mistakes to Avoid

For those of you who regularly practice in Federal Court, you're well aware of the mandatory e-filing system currently in place.  For those of you who have the (mis)fortune of only engaging in electronic discovery or filing once in a while, you have my sympathy.  Courtesy of Craig Ball, here are Ten Mistakes to Avoid.

Web Round-Up

Based on a recent Rogue Barrister’s desire “to find a girl,” this week’s Web Round-Up is devoted to Internet dating that is well off the beaten path.

“Elephants… not hippos”

http://www.elephantdates.com/

Republicans beget republicans. However, sometimes those good ol’ conservative values get in the way of romance (that is if you aren’t doing coke during your college days, ay George W.).  This site was designed for those wanting to escape upper-class inbreeding and to find a mate that will tolerate an incomprehensible political viewpoint.

“Not only is Liberalism a state of mind, it is also a STD”

http://www.democraticsingles.net/

America has a two party system. Dating is a two party system. It makes sense then to have online dating sites totally devoted to finding little-miss-American-left.

“The other white meat”

http://www.conservativematchmaker.com/

Did you find one-to-many-hippos on elephantdates.com? This site is “conservative” in the most liberal sense of the word. Feel free to tell them you’re “right,” but if you tell them why you are right, then you’ll just be preaching to the choir. Remember conservatives frown on adultery, especially when it is brought to the public’s attention… so don’t mention the wife.

“She doesn’t look druish”

http://www.jdate.com/

If you’re a gentile, you might have to lie to get a first date, but it is not like you haven’t lied online before. Afterwards, you might get in three solid dates before you disappoint someone who really is Jewish.

“How do sharks mate? Very Carefully”

http://www.lawyersinlove.com/

Find someone to conquer the world with, one miserable client at a time. This site is devoted to lawyers, law students and those working in the legal profession. While the name implies that there are lawyers and that they are in love, the adversarial nature of “dating” prevents such a conclusion.  Two lawyers in “love” are really two people that have negotiated a long term settlement. Although, if you find someone and get married, you can start your own firm. Ball & Chain, LLP.

Web Round-up

In this first installment of Web Round-up (there will be others, not like what happened with the Legal Term of the Week™), I give a short list of some websites off the beaten path.

Pseudo-Vicariousness

http://opinionistas.com/

I’ll let the author’s bio do the talking:

My name is Melissa Lafsky, I’m a 27-year-old attorney living in downtown Manhattan. I grew up in the D.C. Metropolitan area, got a B.A. from Dartmouth College in 2000 and received my J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2004.

In addition, she just quit her job. YOU TELL THEM (on behalf of those of us who still need the money)! It doesn’t hurt that she is easy on the eyes too.

Craftily Cool

http://www.kk.org/cooltools/index.php

Are you just sitting there in need of a cool gadget, but you haven’t yet realized you need that cool gadget yet? Cool Tools is a website devoted descriptions of just that… cool gadgets for the gadget people. Bikers might want to check out the selections under Autonomous Motion.

One Deal a Day

http://www.woot.com/

Everyday this website sells something different. Nevertheless, it is always dirt cheap.

The Stepford Fawns

Robodeer

Indiana police are using a little technology to stop poachers from killing unsuspecting deer. They have begun using motorized decoy deer all across northwest Indiana.

The decoy is placed along the road with an officer planted in the woods controlling its motorized head. It has been resulting in arrests of up to five poachers per day. The decoy looks so realistic that most people have to take a double-look.

Even if a hunter shoots the decoy they will still be subjects to fines, criminal charges, and incessant heckling from Jeff Foxworthy. No word from the robotic deer, but they are expected to strike soon for better wages. Getting shot day in and day out is pretty tough work, and there are no breaks for rutting.
