Judge, do you know how this is suppose to work?
Why did we have a hearing on a joint motion?
Generally, joint motions should be granted, unless their contents offend the judiciary or the judicial process. In fact, joint motions should be celebrated because both sides have, at least, come to an agreement on SOMETHING.
Why, Honorable Judge, did you have a hearing on our joint motion? Why have a hearing on this topic, when, in sharp contrast, you ruled last week on our motions, which presented conflicting theories of law, without a hearing. (But, you did rule correctly, and we thank you for that.)
Whom are we going to argue against? You, oh Honorable Judge? I think not. If you haven’t noticed, attorneys (almost) NEVER argue with judges, because that is the quickest way for us to "lose." This is why we stood in front of you like statutes and did not say a word.
Nevertheless, I thank you for granting our joint motion.
